Klack, Ting, Rumba!
Start
Klack.
Der Knopf rollte einmal im Kreis.
„Vielleicht will er uns etwas sagen“, flüsterte Fina.
Papa nickte ernst.
Fina musste lachen. Da klapperte der Löffel schneller.
Entscheidung 1: Was soll Fina zuerst tun?
Bumm.
Der Löffel hörte kurz auf.
Dann machte er: klack-ting-tock-tupp-bumm.
Fina rief: „Er hat meinen Fuß eingeladen!“
Entscheidung 2: Welches Kücheninstrument soll als Nächstes mitspielen?
A – Die Müslischale darf den hellen Klang machen.
„Rumba“, sagte Papa.
„Was ist Rumba?“ fragte Fina.
Links, rechts, Pause. Der Löffel machte dasselbe auf dem Tisch.
Klack, rutsch, klack, Pause.
Entscheidung 4: Was braucht die Küchenband jetzt?
A – Einen Bandnamen.
Ganz still.
Fina flüsterte: „Bist du müde?“
Der Löffel machte kein Geräusch.
Papa sah auf den Tisch. „Oder er hat seine Aufgabe geschafft.“
„Welche Aufgabe?“
Dann zusammen lachen.“
Der Löffel blieb still.
Bumm.
Und in ihrem Kopf:
Klack. Ting. Tock.
Pause.
Ende.
Klack, Ting, Rumba!

Start
Fina was sitting in pajamas at the kitchen table. A sleeve was still wet from brushing her teeth. On her plate was half a slice of bread with strawberry jam. Next to it was a cup of cocoa, and next to the cup lay the silver spoon.
The spoon was actually done with stirring.
Actually.
Then it went: clack.
Fina looked.
The spoon made: clack-clack.
Then it slid a bit to the left, turned its round head to the sugar can and made: klacka-klacka-klack.
Papa stopped in the middle of pouring. From the milk jug a single drop dripped onto the table.
“Fina,” Papa said, “is your spoon making breakfast music right now?”
Fina tilted her head. Her left foot immediately tapped. The spoon also tapped. There were three crumbs on the table. They hopped a little bit further at each clack.
The spoon danced to the bread box, hit a yellow button that had fallen off Fina’s jacket yesterday, and stopped.
Clack.
The button once rolled in a circle.
“Maybe it wants to tell us something,” Fina whispered.
Papa nodded seriously. “Or it has jam on its belly and finds it very tickly.”
Fina had to laugh. The spoon rattled faster.
Choice 1: What should Fina do first?
A – Fina taps the spoon rhythm with her fingers.
Fina carefully taps on the table: klack, klack-klack, klacka-klacka. The spoon answers immediately. The crumbs hop like tiny dots on an invisible line. Fina notes: If she types slowly, the spoon slows down. If she types faster, it gets faster. Papa counts quietly with: “One, two, pause.” Then the spoon calms down a little.
B – Fina asks the spoon if it needs breakfast.
“Dear spoon,” says Fina, “maybe you’re hungry for jam?” The spoon slides towards the plate and remains stuck with a small blob on the edge. Fina chuckles. Papa wipes the blob with a cloth. After that, the clack sounds brighter and friendlier.
Merge 1
Now the spoon was in front of Fina. It no longer rattled wildly. It rattled like a small beginning.
Clack. Clack. Pause.
Fina felt the beat in her toes. Papa put four things on the table: a cereal bowl, an empty egg cup, a napkin and the yellow jacket button.
“If something sounds confused,” Papa said, “we can see what is sounding along.”
Continuing path 1
The spoon tapped against the cereal bowl.
Ting.
It tapped against the egg cup.
Tock.
It tapped the button.
Tupp.
Then a sock sprang out somewhere under the table. She was blue, had white stripes and belonged to no one who wanted to count both feet. Fina looked at her feet. On the left she wore a yellow sock. No right.
"Aha," said Papa. “The right sock would also like to participate.”
The sock was on the floor and looked very innocent. The spoon made: klack-ting-tock-tupp.
Fina knocked with her bare right foot on the kitchen floor. That sounded dull and cozy.
Bumm.
The spoon briefly stopped.
Then he went, “Klack-ting-tock-tupp-bumm.”
Fina shouted, “He invited my foot!”
Choice 2: Which kitchen instrument should play next?
A – The cereal bowl can make the bright sound.
Fina puts the shell a little further away from the cup edge. Papa shows her how to tap the edge with just one finger. Ting. Ting. The spoon is happy. The wild rattle becomes a pattern: klack, ting, klack, ting.
B – The egg cup is allowed to make the deep tock sound.
Fina puts the egg cup on a napkin so that it does not slip away. Papa tips it once. Tock. Fina also taps. Tock. The spoon moves closer as if it were listening. The pattern becomes round: klack, tock, klack, tock.
Merge 2
Now they had a kitchen rhythm. Not loud. Not wild. It’s more like morning wearing small shoes.
Fina stood up. Her wet sleeve was on her wrist. The spoon saw the sleeve. At least it felt that way.
Clack-clack?
“No,” said Fina. “The sleeve is still wet.”
Papa got a dry cloth. Fina knocked off her sleeve. This resulted in a new sound: dabbing, dabbing, wiping.
The spoon rattled enthusiastically.
Continuing path 2
Suddenly the spoon slipped to the table edge.
Fina held the air.
Papa quickly put his hand, but the spoon did not jump down. He stopped at the edge, raised his grip a little bit and wobbled.
“That looks like an invitation,” Papa said.
Fina looked at the floor. There was the blue sock. There was a crumb next to it. Next to it was Papa’s slipper, which looked like he had no opinion.
The spoon made:
Klacka.
Klacka.
Slip.
It slid across the table, stopped again and turned once.
“Rumba,” Papa said.
“What is Rumba?” asked Fina.
“A dance with a lot of back and forth,” Papa said. “But in our kitchen it may also be called crumb-rumba.”
Fina stood next to the table. She pushed her right foot forward, then back. Left, right, pause. The spoon did the same on the table.
Clack, slide, clack, pause.
Choice 3: How should Fina practice the rumba?
A – With your feet on the kitchen floor.
Fina takes three small steps: forward, back, break. The bare foot sounds boom, the sock sounds pff, and together it sounds funny. Papa counts: “One, two, pause.” The spoon remains safely on the table and dances at the same time.
B – With your hands on the table.
Fina lays both hands flat on the table. Type on the right. The left is waiting. Then exchange them. Papa joins in. The table buzzes a bit, but nothing falls over. The spoon finds the beat and does not slide too far.
Merge 3
Fina noticed something: Her body could help the spoon. When she breathed calmly, the rhythm became clearer. When she chuckled, he became more bouncing. Both were allowed.
Then they heard a quiet squeak.
The kitchen door was half open. She squeaked in time.
Quii.
Clack.
Quii.
Clack.
Papa looked at the door. “Now the door wants a gig.”
Continuing path 3
Fina went to the door. She pushed it up very slowly.
Quiiiiii.
The spoon answered with a long grinding noise over the napkin.
Schrr.
Fina stood still.
That was no more breakfast noise. That was a real kitchen band.
Mueslischale: ting.
Egg cups: tock.
Sock: pff.
Foot: boom.
Door: Quii.
Spoon: Clack.
Papa bowed to the sugar can. “Dear audience, please hold your crumbs.”
Fina laughed so much that she grabbed her belly. The spoon made a very satisfied clack.
Choice 4: What does the kitchen band need now?
A – A band name.
Fina shouts: “We are called the Klack kitchen!” Papa claps once. The door squeaks with approval. The spoon rotates next to the yellow button as if the button were his little hat. After that, everyone plays together again: Klack, Ting, Tock, Bumm.
B – A conductor-spoon place.
Fina puts a folded napkin in the middle of the table. “This is your stage,” she says. The spoon slips on it and stops. Now he can rattle without visiting the cocoa. Papa nods, “Good stage.” Less risk of sticking.
Merge 4
The kitchen band played three rounds. In the first round, Fina was very fast. In the second round, Papa was much too slow and accidentally made a long “Toooooock”. In the third round they came together.
Clack. Ting. Tock. Bumm.
Pause.
Fina heard the break.
It was not empty. You could breathe in it. In it you could notice where the next sound wanted to begin.
Continuing path 4
After the third round, the spoon lay next to the plate. Quietly silent.
Fina whispered, “Are you tired?”
The spoon made no noise.
Papa looked at the table. “Or he did his job.”
“What task?”
Papa pointed to Fina’s feet. “You’ve noticed how your body finds beat.”
He pointed to the wet sleeve. “You noticed what bothers you and solved it.”
He pointed to the crumbs. “And you’ve noticed that sometimes mess can be sorted without anyone having to scold.”
Fina looked at the crumbs. They were now almost in a small line.
“Crumbs Parade,” she said.
Then the spoon made again:
Clack.
Only once.
As if he meant exactly that.
Ending
In the end, this can also happen: She cleans the crumbs away in rhythm. Fina takes a cloth. Swipe, pause. Swipe, pause. Papa holds the bowl up. The crumbs do not disappear sadly, but like a parade that goes home. The spoon remains silent and shines.
Or so the conclusion sounds: She puts the yellow button back to the jacket. Fina picks up the button. It is round and smooth. “You’ll get back on the jacket later,” she says. Papa puts it in a small bowl. The spoon clicks once approvingly against the edge.
Fina sat down again. The cocoa was warm enough. The bread tasted like strawberry and a bit like adventure.
Papa asked, “And what do we do when the fork tango dances tomorrow?”
Fina thought.
Then she said, Listen first. Then count. Then laugh together.
The spoon remained silent.
But in Fina's right foot it still made quite quiet:
Bumm.
And in her head,
Clack. Ting. Tock.
Pause.
End.
